[ Participating Artists ]

Angkrit Ajachariyasophon

Angkrit Ajachariyasophon, based in Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand, runs a restaurant from the very early morning until noon. In the afternoon, he starts concentrating on his works as an artist. He deals with people and the relationships around him, and funny ideas coming from his observations of society, making himself different from his fellow artists in his local town who tend to follow traditional art appreciating nature or Buddha. Despite his global mindedness, his art activity is mostly rooted in the local community.

Sutee Kunavichayanont has produced a number of works featuring the motif of elephants symbolising Thailand in many ways as well as Buddhist influenced affectionate works. The silicon elephant needs a breath donation from the audience to be an メelephantモ and gain life. The audience will realise that, through this process of exhaling, one has to give something to bring something alive even if it is your carbon dioxide. It is also Sutee's modern day version of the traditional breathing meditation, Vipassana.

Suwan Laimanee

In the teaching of Thai Buddhism, both relaxing people's body and mind with traditional Thai massage and cooking for others are practices of compassion. Suwan Laimanee works in the field of contemporary art to deliver his message using massage or Jasmine rice as a method of communication. He first introduced Thai massage as art in 1996 at the Biennale Florence and then the following year at Documenta X with Michelangelo Pistoletto. According to him, his work goes beyond "relational aesthetics" and is about here and now, the physical touch of art and its sculptural process. Also Thai massage is art, another form of social sculpture which is both real and spiritual; there is no giver or receiver since both are united. T-shirts with his original painting explaining traditional Thai massage will be on sale.
