Kaori Yuzawa "Sleep Syndrome" 11th.Apr-17th.May.2009
graf media gm is pleased to announce the new exhibition, Kaori Yuzawa “Sleep Syndrome” from April 11(sat) to May 17(sun), 2009. Yuzawa presents her imaginary landscapes and the time and memory she has accumulated within, using medias such as photography, objects and drawings. Her work is well received, namely in Europe. This exhibition, as her very first in Kansai, was triggered by an incident that actually happened to the artist. In October, 2007, Yuzawa fell ill. Forced to stay in bed to recover, she spent the next few months sleeping long hours, to the point where she became unsure whether if she was asleep or awake. In these dreams, she says, the world was absolutely beautiful. There, she could wander into distant neighborhoods and do whatever she pleased. It did not take long before Yuzawa starts to enjoy her dreams, where she feels a certain calm take over, as if her dream world was already a part of her reality. As the work we see is drawn from this experience, it may as well be the inner landscape in the realm of her subconscious that we are seeing, thus capturing a reflection of her reality in a mirror. --A hazy, dreamy sensation that everyone can sympathize. This is her world inviting us to share and wade in with her.
